Men with a mean face are the friendliest

It's not new that most women prefer the naughty and bad boys to the straight guys with Ken's face. Now, what you didn't know and what science has discovered is that men with a bad face and aggressive appearance are more likely to sacrifice to help friends or family members.

This was discovered by researchers at the University of St. Andrews, who gave the students money to play a game where they could either get rich or risk their money to help their group. Responsible for the research, Dr. Michael Stirrat said, "It was surprising, our participants with wider faces were more cooperative than the other men.

Another study by psychologists at the same college found that men with more devious and aggressive looks were more likely to sacrifice themselves for their friends.

A classic example is the English soccer player Terry Butcher, a strong and violent defender (he was nicknamed the Butcher) who became famous during the 1989 World Cup qualifiers. He suffered a cut on the head and, despite having blood pouring out of him profusely, he stayed on the field and showed grit until the end.

Previous research has shown that men with wide faces are judged to be aggressive and dishonest, while facial masculinity has also been commonly associated with a lack of friendliness and cooperation.

The new studies make the "Bad to the Bone" concept fall flat. The researchers say that compared to women, men seem to be more sensitive to intergroup relations, especially when they are being watched.

The results suggest that men who exhibit the most "manly" and antisocial behavior are also more likely to make sacrifices to support the groups to which they belong. And their bad reputation playing in their favor.
