Cars used in the film Fast and Furious 6

Besides the beautiful women and the soundtrack, what attracts fans of the Fast and Furious 6 franchise the most are the fucked up cars used in the filming. In pull-outs, drifts, and explosions, they are there and the adrenaline is pumping.

Dennis McCarthy is responsible for choosing the cars for the series, and his strategy is not to ask the automaker to make them, but to scour the open-air markets for ads for old and finished cars, and after getting the cars that are in the worst condition and have no chance of ever getting back on the road, he completely modifies them for use in the movies.

The result for most of the cars are amazing models on the big screen, but in real life, cages with painted over bodies. Only a few that are in the hands of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, get better care and more customization for more detailed scenes. The rest are quite rustic inside.

While we wait for the movie to hit theaters in Brazil on May 24, we decided to reveal the main cars that will appear in the new franchise.

Check out the cars used in the film Fast & Furious 6

1. ford escort MK1

The car was born in England in 77 to serve families and has always been used in competitions. Seven cars were built for the film. With rear wheel drive and less than 800 kg, the car is suitable for risky maneuvers. The Escort was one of the only cars that kept the original four-cylinder Kent engine (which originated the Endura-E, that equipped the first K and Fiesta that arrived inBrazil).

The little escort participated in a jump scene between two cars in the film.

2. Nissan GT-R

The Nissan GT-R won the hearts of prepared car fans in the past decade, whose penultimate version, the Skyline R34, starred in the first sequel of the Fast and Furious and in video game franchises, especially Gran Turismo. The engine is a 530 hp V6 Biturbo, generating high performance, it goes from 0-100 km/h in 3.3s and has a top speed of 316 km/h.

The suspension of the Nissan GT-R that will appear in the movies will also be lowered, with new components to improve the stability of the sports car at high speeds.

3. Alfa Romeo Giulietta

The Italian brand was smart and decided to unite its participation in the film Fast and Furious 6 with the advertising of the car, but instead of using a brand new car, it made a campaign with the new compact hatch crashed during the filming.

In Europe, the Giulietta has four turbo engine options, two gasoline TB Multiair (1.4 120 hp and 170 hp) and two diesel JTDM (1.6 105 hp and 2.0 170 hp).

4. dodge Challenger SRT

With 470 horsepower, and a 6.4 liter engine, it is the largest ever used in a film franchise. The car is inspired by the successful muscle car of the 1970s.

Since it belongs to a company connected to the production of the film, the car is almost original and has undergone minor modifications, such as a blocked differential and a large handbrake lever used to make it go sideways when necessary.

5. jensen Interceptor

The Jensen is an English version of our Brasinca 4200 GT - the Uirapuru - from the 60's. The car started production in 66 and it even had a 6.3 liter V8 engine of Chrysler origin. It had only 3 speeds plus the typical American reverse gear, and as an option a 4-speed manual gearbox.

For the film, it was lowered and has the LS3 engine with 490 hp. According to the Jalopnilk website, although it is equipped with nitrous oxide, the system was not used, because the car simply did not need it and was already quite difficult to control. Five of them were built and they all have the honor of being the cars that burned the most tires in the film.

6. lucrea 470

Designed and built by Lister, these cars were intended to resemble the Jaguar D-Type, produced in Great Britain in the 1950s. With a 560 HP, 816 kg V8 engine, the drivers who have driven the car claim that it goes from zero to 100 km/h in less than 3 seconds.

7. dodge Charger SRT

The sports car has a V8 engine with no less than 465 horsepower. The gearbox is a five-speed automatic, and with it you can change them behind the steering wheel on the throttle. The estimated top speed is 280 km/h (280 mph), with acceleration from 0-100 under five seconds.

For the movie, the car gets a military face, with matte paint and a tow winch mounted in the trunk. According to Dennis, many 'copies' of this car were cut in half for interior scenes and the like. A shame.

8. BMW M5

The German car has an unobtrusive biturbo V8 that produces 560 horsepower - only 10 hp less than the Ferrari 458 Italia. The sedan accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds, beating the record that also belonged to a German, the Audi R8 V10, which registered 4.3 seconds.

For Fast & Furious 6, the cars have not undergone many changes, except for the welded differential. During filming, the car suffered few breakdowns on camera.

9. mustang anvil

For the film, nine of these cars were made. Like wild horses, according to Dennis, these cars were the most difficult to keep beautiful and tame running.

The Mustang was used in a scene with tanks and, as I was told, "whenever you have a lot of tanks, you have a lot of destruction." Because of this, Dennis received a lot of hate mail.

10. plymouth charger/superbird

Plymouth Superbird was a special model produced in series by Chrysler in the U.S.A. Its drag coefficient is only 0.28 - still better than most cars made today - making the model have a high top speed. It could be better, if it were not for the high spoiler (for stability and also so that the trunk could be opened).

According to the blog, one of the rules of the franchise is that Dom had to end up in a Charger anyway. They tried to put it in Fast 5, but the studio thought it was too ridiculous because it looked like a toy. To be used in this edition, Dennis made some changes to please the studio, such as reducing the length of the nose and lowering the big rear wing.

11. plymouth barracuda hemi

The Plymouth Barracuda also had its glory days with powerful V8s, launched shortly before the Mustang. The 'Cuda features a big block 426 (7 liter) 430 horsepower V8, with the classic shaker featured on the hood. Inside, a four-speed manual gearbox.

In the feature, the car uses disc brakes behind the suspension, offering a lot of style.

12. flip car

This car was created by Dennis McCarthy especially for Fast and Furious 6. Without the aesthetic concern, its main function is to attack other cars and turn them upside down. The engine is the LS3 V8 that delivers around 500 hp, allied to the transmission of a speedboat, which also gives the car its peculiar sound at high speed.

The car was designed to be fast and tough, with a spatula-like front end. It fully steers all four wheels so it can coast through traffic. At the last minute, the requirement that the car should be bulletproof was made, and ended up forcing the adaptation of a fake ballistic glass panel.
